Abstract

The paper treats a situation in which two sociometric relations are measured on one set of individuals. A model is presented where it is assumed that there exists a latent network structure which can not be observed directly. When the relations are measured on the network, deviations from the underlying structure might occur with some probability. Approximate estimates of model parameters are given, and the model is applied to a set of data consisting of a large number of networks, making it possible to gain some insight into empirical distributions of test statistics.

Key words: latent network structure, dyad independence, reversibility.
